Gunpowder Milkshake
Overview
The project re-imagines the genre through a distinctly feminine lens, using vibrant color palettes, over the top sets, and stylization to construct a world where femininity and power coexist.
Challenge
In contemporary action cinema, super-heroines are often presented through a lens that emphasizes stylized violence and surface-level empowerment, yet still reflects a framework shaped by traditionally male perspectives. Unlike their male counterparts, female protagonists are frequently confined to aesthetics that prioritize appearance over depth, often lacking the complexity or agency granted to male action heroes.
Response
To solve this disconnect, this project explores how production design particularly through color and atmosphere can reshape the portrayal of female characters in action cinema. By reimagining Gunpowder Milkshake through a design-focused lens, the project examines how visual storytelling can shift the narrative away from passive aesthetics and toward a more nuanced articulation of female character agency.
